How much will you pay under new electricity tariffs announced by PM?

In a significant move to provide relief to consumers, the Prime Minister has announced a reduction in electricity prices, with the new tariffs set to take effect immediately. The latest report details the revised electricity rates for various consumer categories. For lifeline consumers, the electricity tariff has been set at 4.78 rupees per unit. Domestic consumers using up to 100 units will now pay 9.37 rupees per unit, while protected consumers who use 100 units will face a rate of 8.52 rupees per unit. Consumers using up to 200 units will be charged 11.51 rupees per unit. For higher consumption categories, non-protected consumers using 300 units will pay 34.03 rupees per unit. Non-protected Time of Use (TOU) consumers will face a higher rate of 48.46 rupees per unit. The average tariff for domestic consumers has been set at 31.63 rupees per unit. For commercial consumers, the new rate is 62.47 rupees per unit, while general services will be charged 49.48 rupees per unit. For industrial and agricultural use, industrial consumers will now pay 40.51 rupees per unit, and agricultural consumers will face a rate of 34.58 rupees per unit. The new rates also apply to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where electricity tariffs are set at 32.69 rupees per unit. Public lighting will also be charged at the same rate. The average national tariff has been fixed at 37.64 rupees per unit, offering a clearer picture of the new pricing structure. This reduction is expected to ease the financial burden on consumers, especially those in lower-income brackets and essential sectors like agriculture.
