Business as usual in Islamabad despite PTI strike call

A strike call by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday failed to gain traction in Islamabad, as daily life remained largely unaffected across the federal capital. Business activities and public services continued as usual, with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) proceeding with its weekly Sunday bazaars as scheduled. Although public life remained operational, the Islamabad district administration took precautionary measures by suspending metro bus services, anticipating potential protests. This decision, however, caused inconvenience to some commuters. Despite PTI’s announcement to observe February 8 as a “Black Day,” transport terminals remained open, and traffic flowed normally across major roads in the city. Authorities reported no incidents of road blockades, and mobile police squads were active throughout the day to ensure law and order.   Meanwhile, a protest rally organised by Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayin Pakistan (TTAP) took place near Faisal Mosque. Despite this, protesters chanted slogans against the government before dispersing peacefully at the Faisal Mosque. Speaking to the media after the rally, Abbas alleged that two women were detained for waving PTI flags, even though the protest remained peaceful. He criticised the authorities for suppressing peaceful demonstrations and expressed concerns about the suppression of voter turnout in the February 8 elections. He added that the country was in a state of grief and demanded the release of all political prisoners, including former prime minister Imran Khan.
